How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership

Amazon Prime Day is back, and this year runs over a 48-hour period from June 21 to 22.

Anyone who signs up to the retail giant's 30-day free trial - giving access to Prime Video and next-day deliveries - must remember to cancel their subscription in a few weeks, or face a £79 bill.

Thousands of people are expected to join the trial subscription to take part in the annual sale, and they must cancel within the 30 day period to avoid paying the out the monthly fee.

The reason this happens is that when anyone registers - for free or otherwise - their bank details are automatically enrolled into a contract.

That contract charges subscribers as and when the next payment is due.

Those who don't cancel before the 30th day could therefore be slapped with a pretty big bill.

Anyone wishing to continue with the subscription, can, while those who don't can follow the guide below on how to cancel Prime without any hassle.

My subscription accidentally ran over

Anyone who has let their subscription run over by mistake, and have found themselves with a £79 bill, may be able to claim a refund.

Amazon says paid-up members who haven't used their Amazon Prime benefits, such as Prime Video and one-day delivery, will be able to claim their money back.

To cancel, click 'End membership'. This is the second option on the left-hand side of the 'Your Account' page.

Amazon scans the account's history and if a user qualifies, a full refund will be applied.

Users can also claim a partial refund, if they decide they no longer want to continue with Amazon Prime after using it for a few months.

Log in and follow the instructions to request this.

Amazon can also be contacted by phone or email.
