Goal-shy Gunners

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

No team have scored fewer away goals than Arsenal's three in the Premier League this season (level with Norwich).

The Gunners have failed to score in four of their six games on the road.

It's the joint-fewest the Gunners have ever scored after six away games in a league season.

'A pretty soft header'

Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Glenn Murray

Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It has been coming. Tottenham have had a number of corners and they keep opting to take them short.

It was a pretty soft header but it gave the keeper no chance.

GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Brentford

Sergi Canos (own goal)

That's the start Antonio Conte wanted.

Spurs have been really bright and on the front foot, and they get their noses in front after more good work by Son Heung-min.

He beats his man to whip in a cross and Ben Davies leaps high to nod it home.

The stadium announcer gives it to Davies but it's going to go down as an own goal as it came off Sergi Canos before it crossed the line.

'A reflection of Carrick'

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Rob Green

Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Big calls have worked for Michael Carrick. If you go back to the Villarreal game... that was a tough one on a knife edge and they went there and gave a really assured performance. It was a reflection of him. It has been two games but a really big improvement.

Post update

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Son Heung-min has looked really sharp in the opening minutes.

He's galloping forward again and finds Harry Kane, who attempts to find an opening inside the box but Charlie Goode is there to snuff out the danger.

That's excellent defending by Goode.

United's shaky form

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

United have picked up just five points in their past eight Premier League matches (losing five), their fewest over an eight-game spell in Premier League history.

The last eight Premier League goals at Old Trafford have all been scored by the opposition.

The Red Devils have never previously conceded nine consecutive goals at the ground in the competition without replying themselves.

Post update

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Arsenal players come out to warm up. In a panicky moment I worried I'd lost track of time and the game was about to begin.

'Rangnick will have his own observations'

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Danny Higginbotham

Former Man Utd defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you go out on the pitch it is not about players thinking if they can fit Ralf Rangnick's style. It will be players going out on the pitch, getting a result and dealing with that. Rangnick will make his own observations and will have his own ideas. Sometimes managers go in and already know players who aren't for him.

CLOSE!

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Good save.

Tottenham are breaking at speed and Lucas Moura finds space inside the box before going for goal.

Alvaro Fernandez is equal to it, however, and sticks out a strong hand to divert it away.

Should Moura have squared it to Son Heung-Min who was unmarked in the box?

Is Ivan Toney close to an England call?

He has just headed another Spurs corner away and then sprints clear to spark an attack.

Toney looks at home in the Premier League.

'We need to start to rotate the team'

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Amazon Prime: "It is time to play them. We come here with the same level of preparation like we normally do. We need to start to rotate the team.

"Very difficult to predict [how Man Utd will play]. That was something we spoke about in preparation. We don't know how much input he [Ralf Rangnick] has had into the team.

On Aaron Ramsdale: "We are really happy with his performances and the character and personality he has shown.

"You need collective and big performances and to play well to win the game. It is another game and every one is important."

'A lot is made of styles'

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Manchester United

Man Utd interim boss Michael Carrick, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Couple of little tweaks and changes. Harry Maguire has come back in from suspension. We have done it for the two games previous and we have done it tonight. Harry is the captain of the club and a terrific player and a big part of the squad. Eric [Bailly] did well the other day. He is fine with the reason for it. You want those left out to be disappointed. It is natural.

"There is a lot made of the press and counter-attack and styles. We want to be a winning team. There are different ways of going about it. Some games we have dominated with the ball, others we have sat back. We have plans for every game but it is winning that counts.

"It is up to the players to give the fans something to sing about. It is a great position for the players to be in, to come and play football and raise the energy in the stadium. Our fans are incredible, through thick and thin as the saying goes."

Post update

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Glenn Murray

Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Why wouldn't you take the game to Spurs? Their manager has come out and asked questions of them this week so I think Brentford have to go out and ask those questions.

Post update

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

The opening exchanges are being played in Tottenham's half but the hosts break and Son Heung-Min's cross into the box is cut out.

Spurs have an early corner.

'Spurs players playing for their future'

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

Glenn Murray

Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Tottenham's players are playing for their future at this club. It has to be better from them.

KICK-OFF

Tottenham 0-0 Brentford

The first of tonight's two games is under way.

'Brentford will fancy their chances'

Tottenham v Brentford (19:30 GMT)

Glenn Murray

Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

There is a lot of expectation on Spurs tonight. They will be expected to despatch Brentford, but I think the visitors will fancy their chances.

'Tottenham are in a period of transition'

Tottenham v Brentford (19:30 GMT)

Rob Green

Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Antonio Conte is not the messiah. He has realised the size of the task and he's gone "wow - I've seen enough, this is a long-term project".

Tottenham are in a period of transition and Conte will have to say "there will be a long time before I can do anything". It is about time that Tottenham realised that because they did lose some key players after the Champions League final.

Post update

Tottenham v Brentford (19:30 GMT)

I can report Spurs do a very fine light show. Brentford are first to emerge from the tunnel - they're in yellow tonight.

'Ronaldo had to start'

Man Utd v Arsenal (20:15 GMT)

Ian Dennis

BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

Michael Carrick had to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back in tonight. He has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances this season - Manchester United would not be in the last 16 of the Champions League without him.

Man Utd are five points and five places below Arsenal, Ronaldo had to start, surely?
