Albany, NY autobus station -- safety to walk in area?

Accept non explored downtown Albany, NY on human foot before, and was wondering how the area is effectually the Greyhound Bus Station (34 Hamilton St.). Is it prophylactic to walk from at that place to the Empire State Plaza expanse in the morning time? Is information technology safe to walk back to the charabanc station in the early evening (say, 8PM) from the Plaza surface area or from restaurants like the Albany Pump House or Jack'due south Oyster House?

For that matter, are these ii restaurants good, and if and then, is Jack's a clothes-up kind of identify? If not, are there better reasonably priced options within walking altitude of the Plaza for dinner?

Many thanks.

The area around the double-decker station is mostly parking lots. It is rubber to walk there, to and from the plaza and restaurants. Both of these restaurants are expert. Jack's volition be much more than expensive than the Pump Station. Jack'southward is white- linen-table-cloths kind of place with old-fashioned elegance. Withal, they do not require yous to dress up. The last fourth dimension I was there, a guy came in behind us wearing a grey aught-up sweatshirt. The owner, who often greets people at the door, took information technology and hung it upwardly as graciously every bit he would a fur coat! The Pump Business firm is much more than casual with a wide diverseness of food choices in all price ranges. In Albany terms, it is not "near the plaza". In that location are many restaurants on Lark Street, which is much closer to the plaza. Justin'due south comes to listen.

I agree with LOJO.

I've been to Jack's a couple of times in recent months and it's always been 'merely o.k.' Never bad, just never spectacular. A couple of oysters every bit an titbit and a steak are standard fare. Oversupply there is more often than not business suits, but dress up is not required.

Albany Pump house is more burgers & sandwiches & beer, and definitely much more casual/younger crowd. Skillful nachos too.

Where are you staying? I would not hesitate to walk to either from the Plaza, merely it's uphill on the style back, then a cab would be handy - the restaurant can telephone call one for you. The surface area is very quiet after concern hours.

I grew up in Albany in the early threescore'southward and went to Philip Schuyler Loftier School but lived out near Guilderland. In all the years I have dated girls from my school who lived in the downtown area and I would walk alone going from their house to get the last Western Ave omnibus late at night I never had a trouble. I tin can't say what information technology is like now since I only visit Albany evey then often, but I would say your ok and I was recently back there and went to Jack'south in the late evening and parked on upper State Street and I had no problems. Both places are good to eat at, information technology'southward a matter of what blazon of nutrient your looking for. Your as condom as you would exist in whatsoever big metropolis I wouldn't worry virtually information technology.

It's been a while since my initial postal service -- take gone and returned already some time agone.

Will report that I had no issues walking from or to the bus station at the times requested (non so certain I'd become for walking Madison Ave. in the wee hours between the jitney station and New York Land Museum, though it was all right during daylight hours. Land Street -- which is the mode I came dorsum to the bus station -- struck me as a better evening choice here.).

Did get to Jack's, and institute a wide spectrum of dress there -- nutrient was OK, though I've admittedly had more memorable in other cities for this cuisine.

Besides, the country capitol edifice here was stunning -- forth with the ane in Harrisburg, PA, ane of the two best I've seen.
